Golf Buggy Charging Supplies and Rolec Bollards in Cornwall

Maenporth Electrical Ltd installed new electrical supplies for new Rolec bollards used to charge golf buggies at a golf club in Cornwall. The work replaced an original charging arrangement in which one existing supply served all of the buggy chargers.

The original buggy chargers needed replacing because of their poor condition and water ingress. The new installation provided an individual supply to each Rolec bollard to give discrimination on overload protection, while making use of the existing Schneider distribution board.

The installation also included preparing the bollard bases. All bases were concreted in before the bollards were mounted, establishing the supports before the charging equipment was fitted.

Replacing the original buggy charging arrangement

The existing installation supplied all of the original golf buggy chargers from one supply. With the chargers in poor condition and affected by water ingress, the work required replacement charging equipment as well as new supplies for the Rolec bollards.

These were two distinct parts of the project: replacing the original chargers and changing how the new bollards were supplied. Rather than retaining one supply serving all of the charging points, each new bollard received its own individual supply.

Outdoor charging equipment needs to be considered in the context of its surroundings as well as its electrical demand. On this project, water ingress was an identified issue with the original chargers, making their condition an important part of the reason for replacement.

Individual supplies for the new Rolec bollards

The new Rolec bollards were installed for charging golf buggies. Each bollard was supplied individually, with discrimination on overload protection forming part of the supply arrangement. This was a specific requirement of the electrical work, rather than simply a change in the appearance or position of the charging equipment.

In electrical protection, discrimination concerns the coordination of protective devices so that the device associated with an affected circuit operates rather than unnecessarily involving protection further upstream. Here, the purpose of the individual supplies was to provide that discrimination for overload protection across the buggy charging arrangement.

The distinction between the old and new layouts is therefore important: the original chargers shared one supply, whereas the replacement Rolec bollards each had an individual supply. The project combined new charging equipment with a revised approach to supplying it.

Using the existing Schneider distribution board

The existing Schneider distribution board was utilised for the new supplies. The work therefore retained this part of the site's electrical installation while providing individual supplies to the new bollards.

This is a useful detail of the project scope: replacement of the buggy chargers did not mean replacement of every part of the electrical system serving them. The new Rolec installation was supplied using the existing board, with the work focused on the charging equipment and its new supply arrangement.

Concrete bases before bollard mounting

All of the bollard bases were concreted in before the bollards were mounted. This sequence separated preparation of the supports from fitting the upright charging equipment.

For a bollard installation, the mounting arrangements are part of the practical site work, alongside the electrical supplies. On this job, the concrete bases were prepared first, followed by mounting the new Rolec bollards for golf buggy charging.

Scope of the completed work
