7.99 kW SolarEdge PV and Battery Installation in Falmouth

Installation of a 7.99 kW SolarEdge PV system with 10 kW battery storage in Falmouth, using 17 AIKO 470 W panels across the main house and garage roofs.

Maenporth Electrical installed a new 7.99 kW SolarEdge photovoltaic system with 10 kW battery storage at a property in Falmouth, Cornwall. The installation used 17 AIKO 470 W solar panels, with the array divided across two separate roofs.

Eleven panels were installed on the main house and a further six on the garage. Every panel was connected with SolarEdge optimisation, allowing the individual modules on both roof areas to form part of the same coordinated solar installation.

The inverter and battery were installed inside the garage. The project also included SolarEdge load controllers and a SolarEdge immersion heater with thermostatic temperature control, enabling excess solar energy to be directed towards heating the property's hot water.

Solar PV and battery installation scope

The work covered the rooftop solar arrays, panel-level optimisation, cable routing, inverter installation, battery storage and controls for the immersion heater. Bringing these elements together required consideration of both roof areas and the route between the main property and the equipment installed in the garage.

The principal equipment and system details were:

  • One 7.99 kW SolarEdge solar PV system.
  • 10 kW battery storage.
  • Seventeen AIKO 470 W solar panels.
  • Eleven panels installed on the main house.
  • Six panels installed on the garage.
  • SolarEdge optimisation fitted across all panels.
  • Inverter and battery equipment installed in the garage.
  • PV Ultra SWA cable routed within the fabric of the main property.
  • SolarEdge load controllers.
  • A SolarEdge immersion heater with thermostatic temperature control.

This combination provided a single installation incorporating solar generation from two roofs, battery storage and control of excess energy for water heating.

Seventeen solar panels across two roofs

The available solar array was divided between the main house and garage rather than being confined to one roof. Eleven AIKO 470 W modules formed the larger array on the house, while six further modules were installed on the garage roof.

Installing panels across two structures meant the mounting arrangement and electrical connections had to accommodate two distinct roof areas. SolarEdge optimisation was used for all 17 panels, including both the 11-panel house array and the six-panel garage array.

The roof installation involved fitting the mounting brackets and rails before positioning and securing the panels. This created the support system needed for the two groups of modules while maintaining a clear arrangement across the slate roof surfaces.

PV Ultra SWA cable routing

PV Ultra SWA cable was used to run the solar cabling within the fabric of the main property. This was an important part of connecting the roof-mounted equipment with the wider SolarEdge installation while following the required cable route through the building.

The cable installation formed the link between the generation equipment and the inverter and battery arrangement located in the garage. With panels installed on both the house and garage roofs, the cable route had to support the overall layout without treating the two arrays as unrelated installations.

Using PV Ultra SWA provided a cable solution suited to this part of the project and allowed the necessary route to be incorporated into the fabric of the house. The routing was completed as part of the wider electrical installation rather than as a separate surface-only addition.

Garage-mounted inverter and battery storage

The SolarEdge inverter and 10 kW battery storage equipment were installed in the garage. Locating the principal equipment together provided a central point for the inverter, battery, associated electrical enclosures, isolators and cable connections.

The installation required the equipment to be positioned and mounted before the relevant containment, cabling and electrical controls were arranged around it. The garage therefore accommodated the main equipment serving the panels on both roofs.

Battery storage was included as an integral part of the new installation. It works alongside the SolarEdge PV system and the additional energy-control equipment, rather than the project consisting solely of roof-mounted solar panels.

SolarEdge controls and immersion heating

SolarEdge load controllers were installed as part of the system. A SolarEdge immersion heater was also fitted with thermostatic temperature control so that excess energy from the PV installation could be used to heat hot water.

The thermostat provides temperature control for the immersion-heating element of the installation. This means the use of excess solar energy for water heating is linked to the required water temperature rather than operating without temperature control.

Including the immersion heater extended the installation beyond solar generation and battery storage. The completed scope brought together the two rooftop arrays, panel-level SolarEdge optimisation, the garage-mounted inverter and battery, the load controllers and controlled diversion of excess energy to hot water.

A coordinated SolarEdge installation in Falmouth

This Falmouth project required the solar generation equipment to be distributed across the main house and garage while the inverter and battery were brought together inside the garage. The use of 17 AIKO 470 W panels provided the specified 7.99 kW system, split as 11 panels on the house and six on the garage.

From the roof mounting and PV Ultra SWA cable route to the SolarEdge optimisation, battery storage and immersion-heater controls, each part formed part of one coordinated electrical and renewable-energy installation.
